Megadeth Guitarist Kiko Loureiro Won’t Appear on Band’s Fall Tour
Megadeth guitarist Kiko Loureiro will sit out the band’s upcoming tour due to family issues
Longtime Megadeth guitarist Kiko Loureiro won’t be appearing on the group’s upcoming North American tour. Instead, he’s staying close to home to take care of family matters.
Loureiro took to Megadeth’s social media accounts to tell fans that he would be going home to Finland to be with his children to “help them face the difficult challenges that arise from us being ‘Dads that work away from home.'” He also announced the guitarist who will be temporary taking his place. That guitarist is Finnish guitarist Teemu Mantysaari of melodic death metal band Wintersun.
In the statement, Loureiro said, “Our new record ‘The Sick, The Dying, and The Dead’ and our ‘Crush the World’ tour have been great. The worldwide chart positions have been our best yet! We want to really thank you for that.” Later in the note, he explained, “I have something that is difficult to share, but we always like to keep you informed with the truth. I have to leave the tour for now, to be home with my children, and to help them face the difficult challenges that arise from us being ‘Dads that work away from home.'”
Then, he discussed Mantysaari taking his place, and said, “I think you’ll be very happy. He’s an amazing, incredible player. I have shared this with my partner in shred, Dave Mustaine, and to no surprise, he said, ‘Go! Go be there for your family and keep us posted!'”
He ended the note by telling his band mates and fans that he would see them all “very soon.” Loureiro also said he’d be back on the road. He added that they would not be canceling the tour, and that Teemu’s first show would be Sept. 6 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, at the Revel Arena.”
