The guys of Green Day went back to an old friend to record their new album, “Saviors”

Green Day have quite a few things cooking for 2024. Last week, the guys confirmed a 2024 stadium tour with The Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid, and The Linda Lindas. While no dates have been announced, the band announced the massive tour during a club show in Las Vegas. Now, it appears lots of new music is on the way from Green Day, too.

The famed pop-punk trio – which features Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool – has announced a new album, “Saviors,” due out Jan. 19, 2024 via Reprise/Warner Records. In addition to the new album news, the group has unveiled a new song, “The American Dream Is Killing Me,” and a dramatic music video. The song’s name, of course, is a take on the very popular 2004 Green Day album, “American Idiot.”

“The American Dream Is Killing Me” was one of the final tracks the band wrote and recorded for “Saviors.” In a press release, Armstrong says, “As soon we cut it, we said, ‘Okay, that’s going first.'” Armstrong also said the song is “a look at the way the traditional American Dream doesn’t work for a lot of people — in fact, it’s hurting a lot of people.”

Recording sessions for the new Green Day album took place with a familiar name. Green Day recorded the new set in London and Los Angeles with Grammy-winning producer Rob Cavallo. Cavallo, of course, worked with the band on their seminal 1994 release “Dookie” and “American Idiot.” The new tunes promise to follow in those grand traditions.

The music video for “The American Dream Is Killing Me” is perfect for the spooky season. The clip is a film noir-inspired black and white music video with the members of Green Day performing in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. Green Day worked with directors Brendan Walter and Ryan Baxley for the video, and they filmed it in Los Angeles.

More is on the way for Green Day in 2023, too. The band will perform this Thursday (Oct. 26) as part of Amazon Music Live’s concert series. Then, they’ll perform on Nov. 19 at the Twisted Tea Grey Cup Halftime Show for the 110th Grey Cup at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, Ontario. A press release promises much more Green Day news ahead, too. So, stay tuned. For the latest on Green Day, visit the band’s official website.
