Motley Crue Promise New Music in 2024, But Cancel NYE Show
New Year’s Eve is just a few days away, so it’s a bit last-minute for a change of plans. But, people who had tickets to see Motley Crue perform at the Acrisure Arena in Greater Palm Springs, California, will have to scramble for something to do, as the Crue has called off the show. So, why did Motley Crue cancel their New Year’s Eve show? According to a statement from the band, they’re nixing the appearance due to production issues.
“It is with deep regret we must inform you the Crüe Year’s Eve show in Palm Springs is being canceled,” the Crue said on their social media pages. “The very short timeframe to produce the event resulted in issues beyond our control. We look forward to seeing you all in 2024!”
The Crue announced the show earlier this month, which makes me wonder if it just didn’t sell well enough. That’s just speculation. I mean, the Crue have sold out bigger venues than the Acrisure Arena. But, many people already have their New Year’s Eve plans set by early December, so that could have hurt ticket sales.
Aside from the New Year’s Eve gig, the band recently added some new shows to their 2024 itinerary, including two gigs at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City in New Jersey on May 3 and 4. While the Crue doesn’t have a proper tour lined up for 2024, they aren’t without live shows. They also have appearances set up for a collection of music festivals, including Welcome to Rockville in Daytona Beach, Florida; Summerfest in Milwaukee; and Ottawa Bluesfest in Canada. So, fans will have some chances to see the Crue in 2024.
Is Motley Crue making new music?
Oh, and if you’re hoping for new Motley Crue music in 2024, it looks like your wish is going to come true. Bass player Nikki Sixx recently wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Yes @MotleyCrue will be releasing new music is 2024 and separately yes I am working with @RobMinkoff developing a new music related animation project. Good times ahead.” Check out the tweet below.
So, Sixx has actually confirmed that the Crue will release new music in 2024, and he’s got some new stuff coming, too. That’s a lot of activity for a band that’s retired multiple times. But, we’ll take it.
Sixx previously spoke with Audio Ink Radio about the glue that keeps Motley Crue together. When asked how they’ve survived so many years together, he replied, “God, if I know! (Laughs) I mean, honestly, I have no f***ing idea. I think we are on the plane, it’s on fire, we’re heading towards the mountain, we’re going to crash and burn and then, next thing you know, we’re on another world tour, and we’re together, and we’re getting along like brothers. Then, it changes again. We’ve been through so many versions. I think now that we’re getting older…we’re just happy to play together.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Sixx said, “I threw my life into this band. I threw my life as a lyricist into this band and exposed things about myself or things that I saw in this band.”
