Mastodon and Lamb of God Team Up for 2024 Tour
Mastodon and Lamb of God have a lot in common this year, as both metal bands are celebrating the 20th anniversary of seminal records. For Lamb of God, it’s 2004’s “Ashes of the Wake,” and for Mastodon, it’s 2004’s “Leviathan.” So, how do the guys celebrate? With a tour, of course. Mastodon and Lamb of God have announced a slew of 2024 tour dates for a co-headlining trek in honor of the anniversaries.
The tour, dubbed the “Ashes of Leviathan Tour,” will have Lamb of God playing “Ashes of the Wake” in its entirety and Mastodon performing “Leviathan” from front to back. What’s more, they’re bringing Slayer guitarist Kerry King’s new solo band and UK metalcore band Malevolence. Something extra special is that the last stop of the tour, on Aug. 31, marks the actually date that both “Ashes of the Wake” and “Leviathan” were both released.
The tour will begin July 19 in Grand Prairie, Texas, and runs through an Aug. 31 show in Omaha, Nebraska. Artist and Live Nation pre-sales are happening now, and general admission tickets go on sale starting Friday (Feb. 9).
As for the opening acts, while Malevolence will appear on most of the tour dates, Unearth will replace them for three August shows. For Kerry King’s new solo project, this tour will mark his first announced full trek. King’s band also features Slayer drummer Paul Bostaph, Hellyeah bass player Kyle Sanders, former Machine Head guitarist Phil Demmel and Death Angel lead singer Mark Osegueda. How’s that for a supergroup? King has said that his solo project’s music will sound a lot like Slayer, which is good news for fans of the longstanding heavy metal band. King’s project is one of the most buzzed-about of the year in the metal community.
