Disturbed Reach Milestone with ‘Sound of Silence’ Video
Bands that are at the level of Disturbed have achieved many milestones. So, once you become a platinum-selling group, like Disturbed, it’s difficult to have too many more “firsts.” But, Disturbed have reached a new milestone with their “Sound of Silence” music video. It’s a big one, too.
Disturbed, ‘Sound of Silence,’ Hits New Milestone
The music video for Disturbed‘s popular cover of the Simon & Garfunkel song “The Sound of Silence” has surpassed a whopping 1 billion views on YouTube. Disturbed released their cover of the track on their 2015 studio album, “Immortalized.” It was given an even bigger stage when the band performed it live on TBS’ “Conan” in March of 2016. What’s wild is that the performance of “The Sound of Silence” on “Conan” has garnered 146 million views on YouTube, and that’s not even the song’s official video.
Disturbed is smoking Simon & Garfunkel, too, not that it was their intention. The most viewed video of Simon & Garfunkel performing the track live has around 135 million views.
But, Paul Simon is cool with Disturbed getting all the fanfare. He previously reached out to Disturbed vocalist David Draiman to give him props on his live rendition on “Conan,” writing, “Really powerful performance on ‘Conan’ the other day. First time I’d seen you do it live. Nice. Thanks.”
It was something of a love fest, as Draiman replied to Simon’s email, stating, “Mr. Simon, I am honored beyond words. We only hoped to pay homage and honor to the brilliance of one of the greatest songwriters of all time. Your compliment means the world to me/us and we are eternally grateful.”
More and more rock video are starting to reach that 1 billion mark, which says something good about the health of rock and metal, in general. Among some of the rock and metal music videos to hit 1 billion views on YouTube include Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger,” Radiohead’s “Creep,” Hoobastank’s “The Reason,” Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer,” Linkin Park’s “In the End,” Linkin Park’s “Numb,” Imagine Dragons’ “Radioactive,” “System Of A Down – ‘Chop Suey!” and more. It’s great to see so many rock and metal acts hitting this massive milestone.
It’s going to be a big of a quiet year for Disturbed, at least when it comes to touring. The band currently has three fall festival dates on their upcoming roster, including Rocklahoma, Louder Than Life and Aftershock. Perhaps the band is working on their follow-up to 2022’s “Divisive.” What’s more, Disturbed spent much of last year on the road, so they deserve a break.
