Mastodon and Lamb of God Release Sludgy ‘Floods of Triton’
Mastodon and Lamb of God have teamed up for a new collaborative song, “Floods of Triton.” The song comes on the heels of the bands’ co-headlining tour together, so it’s really perfect timing. Actually, it would have been more perfect timing if the guys had released the song before the tour and performed it together, but that’s okay. I’ll cut them some slack.
The tour saw Mastodon and Lamb of God honoring he 20th anniversary of their respective groundbreaking albums, “Leviathan” and “Ashes of the Wake.” Both Mastodon and Lamb of God each played their albums in full on the tour. Perhaps the guys had enough downtime together on the road that they could get together and record “Floods of Triton.”
Mastodon and Lamb of God Present Sludge, Thrash in ‘Floods of Triton’
It’s worth noting that “Floods of Triton” sounds like a combination, well, of Mastodon and Lamb of God. The song works in some sludgy metal, thrash, death metal and more, with vocals predominantly from Lambs of God frontman Randy Blythe.
Mastodon and Lamb of God recorded “Floods of Tritor” at Mastodon’s West End Sound in Atlanta. The song was produced by Mastodon and Tyler Bates. It’s available digitally and on vinyl.
Mastodon and Lamb of God’s co-headlining tour is over, and so far, they haven’t announced any new tour dates. But, both bands will be playing Riot Fest on Sept. 22 in Chicago. Mastodon also have some shows lined up at Louder Than Life and Aftershock, while Lamb of God are schedule to headline their own Headbanger’s Boat cruise at the end of October.
Audio Ink Radio was at the Detroit-area stop of the Mastodon and Lamb of God tour. “Mastodon’s set was very meaty, which was great, because Mastodon are certainly no openers at this point in their career,” writer and editor Anne Erickson stated in the review. “Mastodon performed tracks off ‘Leviathan,’ of course, as well as more formative tracks. The crowd was absolutely in ecstasy watching them and roared along with every song.”
She added of Lamb of God, “By the time Lamb of God took the stage, things were really amped up at Freedom Hill. The crowd exploded when Lamb of God took the stage and started delivering their in-your-face, pummeling form of heavy metal. Sometimes I forget just how influential both of these bands are in the metal world, but it becomes obvious when I see the crowds at their shows light up and thrust their fists in the air along with the beat.”
