It’s always a big deal when a band parts ways with their original vocalist. Even though all of the members in a band are important, losing a lead singer really meaning losing the voice of a band. But, thankfully, sometimes, there’s a happy ending. Such is the case with a modern rock band who just announced a reunion with their original lead vocalist after more than 10 years apart. What’s extra special is that this band is keeping their new vocalist and adding their original vocalist back.

Welcome Back to the Fold, Adam Gontier

Post-grunge band Three Days Grace are welcoming original frontman Adam Gontier back into the band, who left the group in 2013. After Gontier left the band, they added singer Matt Walst, and Walst will actually remain with the band and share vocal duties with Gontier.

Three Days Grace took to social media this week to tease the return of Gontier. They posted a voicemail message, which had Gontier telling Walst that he would “be at the studio soon, if you can just let everybody know.” It wasn’t totally out of the blue, because Gontier did appear at several shows with Three Days Grace in 2023 to sing a handful of songs.

Also, both Gontier and Walst have released statements saying they’re recording a new album with Three Days Grace. According to a press release, “further details about new music and touring plans will be forthcoming.” So, fans can expect both live shows and new music with Gontier swapping vocals with Walst.

“I feel like it’s been seamless, better than we were expecting,” Gontier said. “It’s like we got back in a room together and picked up where we left off. We have been friends for so long it’s kind of natural to get back in the room together.”

Walst continued, “It’s been so much fun and inspiring making this record. Combining over 20 years of Three Days Grace and doing something that no band has ever done. I’m excited for the fans to hear it!”

After leaving Three Days Grace in 2013, Gontier formed the modern rock band Saint Asonia with Staind guitarist Mike Mushok. Saint Asonia were slated to tour with Theory of a Deadman later this year but dropped out due to “personal matters.”

Three Days Grace’s Biggest Hits

With Three Days Grace, Gontier helped the band craft hit mainstream rock songs, including “Animal I Have Become,” “Never Too Late,” “Chalk Outline” and more. The band also had solid chart success with Walst.

Three Days Grace’s song “I Hate Everything About You” was named one of Audio Ink Radio’s top post-grunge songs of all time. “Grunge always had a lot of angst, and Three Days Grace captured that grunge angst in their post-grunge hit ‘I Hate Everything About You,'” music expert and reporter Anne Erickson noted. “It’s not a very warm-and-fuzzy song title, but it was a massive post-grunge hit in 2003, right when the genre was peaking.”

Three Days Grace’s current lineup brings together Gontier, Walst, guitarist Barry Stock, bass player Brad Walst and drummer and keyboardist Neil Sanderson.
