Beloved Classic Rock Band Announces One Time Reunion Show
A beloved classic rock band has announced a one-off reunion show, bringing together the band’s original members one more time. Retiring never really means retiring at this point, and in that spirit, whenever a classic rock bands says they’re going to retire, you should know that things could change.
Of course, sometimes, bands say they’ll retire from touring but still leave the door open for one-off shows, which is nice, because they aren’t really saying goodbye. Others say they’ll retire from it all, only to announce a big comeback a few years later.
Steven Tyler’s Grammy Party to Host Reunion Show
Aerosmith have announced that they will perform for the first time since retiring from touring in August of 2024. The longstanding classic rock band will reunite at vocalist Steven Tyler’s sixth annual Jam for Janie Grammy Awards Viewing Party.
The benefit show is set for February 2 at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, California. Other artists lined up to perform, on top of the classic rock band, include Billy Idol, Joan Jett, Linda Perry, Matt Sorum and Nuno Bettencourt of Extreme, who will all perform together in a jam session. Tiffany Haddish will host the event.
So, who will perform at the show, when it comes to the Aerosmith reunion? A press released includes Aerosmith members Tyler, Joe Perry and Tom Hamilton, but it doesn’t include rhythm guitarist Brad Whitford, who he might not be there. Drummer Joey Kramer was also not mentioned, but that’s not a surprise, because he hadn’t been touring with the group in the past few years.
Funds raised from the show will go to Tyler’s organization Janie’s Fund, an initiative to help young girls who have suffered the trauma of abuse and neglect. In addition to Janie’s Fund, proceeds from the night will also go to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation and Widows, Orphans and Disabled Firefighter’s Fund.
“What the Los Angeles community has endured with these wildfires is unthinkable,” Tyler said in a statement. “Music has healing powers and we hope to bring a moment of joy and levity to our first-responder firefighters and those most affected by the fires.”
He added, “The trauma experienced by the girls we work with is also unthinkable and we will continue to shed light and support the amazing work of Janie’s Fund.”
Aerosmith’s Road to Retirement
Aerosmith announced their retirement from touring on August 2 of 2024, because of a vocal injury Tyler got during concerts on the group’s farewell tour the year before. Initially, Aerosmith were hoping to reground and be able to finish out their farewell tour starting in September of 2024, but they ended up nixing all of their dates. The band’s last performance together as a group was September 9, 2023 at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York.
The good news is that Hamilton spoke with Boston radio station WBUR earlier in January and said Tyler was coming along on making a recovery from his vocal injury.
“Steven’s healing process is going really, really well, but it goes at its own pace,” Hamilton said. “Maybe Aerosmith will do something in the future, but it’s a big if and the last thing I want to be doing is to try and push Steven in that direction.”
