Metalcore Favorite Releases First New Song in 15 Years
Metalcore is a genre that’s been alive and well for years, and that trend in continuing into 2025. The genre combines heavy metal, hardcore punk and a bevy of other heavy sounds and has blossomed in the 21st century. Bands such as Earth Crisis, Integrity and Converge were among the first making this heavy-yet-melodic music and helped shape the early days of metalcore.
Since the genre has been around for decades, some metalcore bands have come and gone. But, one metalcore favorite from the 1990s has released their first new song in 15 years.
Poison the Well Return With ‘Trembling Level’
Poison the Well are back with a new single, “Trembling Level,” which marks their first new song in 15 years. The track is also their first release on the band’s new label, SharpTone Records.
Even though the song is under three minutes in length, it doesn’t skimp on attitude or bluster. “Trembling Level” has everything you’d want from a metalcore anthem, from a wild breakdown to fast-paced hardcore. The song also packs different styles, and according to guitarist Ryan Primack revealed, that wasn’t by accident. “Trembling Level” is supposed to offer a look at the band’s full catalog in one track.
“For me, I was trying to figure how to effectively incorporate elements from our whole discography into one song,” Primack said in a statement. “We ended up with this, and it has a little bit of everything we’ve done throughout the course of our existence.”
“Lyrically, it’s about tackling a fear,” vocalist Jeff Moreira added. “I tend to write based on personal experience. You’re approaching something you’re scared to do, going through it, and realizing the hardest parts are actually the ones you should be looking towards because those will lead you to success.”
Spring Tour Will Honor 25th Anniversary of Seminal Album
Fans can expect to hear the new song on Poison the Well’s North American tour in April.
The trek will also honor the 25th anniversary of the band’s debut album, 1999’s “The Opposite of December… A Season of Separation,” and features openers Glassjaw, Better Lovers and Teenage Wrist.
“For me, ‘The Opposite of December…’ represents everything I absorbed as a teenager: the shows, the music, the raw energy of hardcore and punk. I never imagined that record would still resonate 25 years later. Seeing people continue to connect with it inspires me every day, and I’m so grateful for the opportunities this band has given me,” Moreira said in a statement. “This upcoming tour is so much more than just a series of shows. It’s a celebration of that record, its impact, and the journey we’ve shared together.”
He added, “We’ve worked hard to make it special in every way — from the lineup, featuring Glassjaw, Better Lovers, and Teenage Wrist, to the merch, the setlist, and the production. It’s all about honoring The Opposite of December… and the listeners who’ve supported us through the years.”
In addition to Primack and Moreira, Poison the Well also welcomes new bass player Noah Harmon and guitarist Vadim Taver into the group. Both musicians have played with the band for years, and now, they’re officially members.
