Def Leppard is the kind of band that’s simply fun to crank at maximum volume. That’s not to mention that these guys have fantastic live shows, even today. While Def Leppard broke out in the 1980s and are known for their work during that decade, they still totally deliver live to this day. Pretty much anyone who has watched Joe Elliott and company perform overt past few years can attest to the idea that these guys still have it.
When it comes to the hits, Def Leppard has a lot of them. Songs such as “Pour Some Sugar on Me” and “Animal” are among the most popular songs out of the 1980s rock scene. But, what about the band’s lesser-known hits? In honor of all things Def Leppard, Audio Ink Radio is naming the most underrated Def Leppard songs of all time. Without further ado, let’s get into this rocking tally of Def Leppard tracks that deserve more attention.
Underrated Def Leppard Songs
“Broke ‘N’ Brokenhearted”
All of Def Leppard’s biggest hits came out of the 1980s, but “Broke ‘N’ Brokenhearted” arrived on the band’s self-titled 2015 release. Most of the tracks on here were pretty under the radar, but out of all of them, “Broke ‘N’ Brokenhearted” deserves the most attention. The riffs and guitar soloing on here are epic.
“Love and Affection”
The 1987 Def Leppard track “Love and Affection” could have and should have been a hit. Everything about this song is so commercial, and it has the ability to appeal to a wide variety of music fans. So, why didn’t it break? For whatever reason, Def Leppard just didn’t make a push for it. But, that’s okay, because the song can still be enjoyed as a rarity.
“Run Riot”
Of course “Run Riot” would be on this tally. The song, off 1987’s “Hysteria,” is often considered one of Def Leppard’s best tracks that never made it too big. This is a straight-ahead rock number, with a high-octane guitar and vocal delivery. The middle of the song also brings a cool instrumental that recalls a heavy metal instrumental.
“Stagefright”
Coming off Def Leppard’s monster of an album, 1983’s “Pyromania,” it’s no wonder that “Stagefright” got lost in the shuffle. Between the rest of the album’s chart-topping singles, a few songs really flew under the radar, and “Stagefright” was one of them. But, it’s a gem, featuring crazy metal vibes, punk energy and Elliott’s wailing vocals over big guitars. It’s one of those songs that just can’t be played loud eough.
“Stand Up (Kick Love into Motion)”
Coming off Def Leppard’s multi-platinum album “Adrenalize,” “Stand Up (Kick Love into Motion)” is a 1993 single that never quite got its due. While the song reached No. 34 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, it didn’t do nearly as well as some of their other singles, and it’s a head-scratcher as to why. This song is simply a Def Leppard classic.
