The lead vocalist of a legendary 1980s rock band has been dealing with tragedy the past few months, and he’s finally opening up about the experience.

Faster Pussycat singer Taime Downe lost his fiancée while on a cruise, making for a tragic and very surprising loss. Downe’s fiancée Kimberly Burch went overboard during “The 80s Cruise” in March, when the ship was sailing from Miami to the Bahamas. She was 56 years old.

According to reports, the U.S. Coast Guard and the Royal Bahamas Defense Force tried to locate her but had no luck with those attempts. Cruises are supposed to be a fun experience, and unfortunately, this one ended in tragedy. It’s about as horrible as it gets.

An article published by The Hollywood Reporter several days after the death claimed that security footage from the ship showed Burch jumping from the rail. But, Burch’s sister-in-law, Kellie Burch, said that she didn’t think Burch would intentionally hurt herself or jump off the boat. “She wouldn’t do that,” Kellie told the Daily Mail. “It’s just not her.”

Taime Downe Opens Up About Fiancée’s Death

Now, Faster Pussycat, an ’80s glam-rock band, is touring the U.S., and Downe is discussing the tragedy openly for the first time since Burch’s passing. He appeared on SiriusXM’s “Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk” on May 31.

“It’s a roller coaster,” Taime said, as reported by Blabbermouth. “I’m hanging in there. I’m just taking it a day at a time. And everybody thought going out on the road and doing what I do and being with my family in my band would be good for me. So I’ve taken their advice and [I’m] doing this.”

He also said that he hopes getting out on tour and seeing friends and family around the U.S. will give him some love during this trying time. He says that people have encouraged him to get out there and do some touring, so that’s what he’s doing. He also said he’s been comforting to talk about what happened.

Since the passing, he also confronted the idea that he’s having trouble staying sober. Going through something as devastating as losing the love of your life, of course, can thrust people into addition as a way to cope. But, not him. “There’s no way I’d touch booze,” he said. “For me, that’s just completely disgusting in my brain.”

He added that he loved “Kimberly, and it was just hard to deal with. We spent basically nine years together. I don’t wanna get into what her psyche was at the time, but there’s a lot of things that make up people’s lives at a certain time of their life… It’s been hard on everybody.” He didn’t really elaborate on her “psyche” any more, but that sort of thing is very private, and nobody should push him to open up about something as personal as his love’s mental state at the time of her death.

Faster Pussycat will perform on June 4 in Katy, Texas. The band has dates scheduled through July 8 in Salt Lake City, Utah. So far, they don’t have any other tour dates scheduled through the end of the year.
