Progressive rock legends and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson are hitting the road for the first time in over a decade with “Fifty Something,” a 2026 headline tour celebrating more than 50 years of Rush’s pioneering music and the life and legacy of late drummer and lyricist Neil Peart.
The tour begins June 7 at The Kia Forum in Los Angeles, the same venue that hosted Rush’s final show on August 1, 2015, capping their R40 Tour. The new run marks a poignant full-circle moment for the band’s co-founders, who last performed together that night before Peart’s passing in 2020 after a private battle with brain cancer.
A Brief History of Rush
Formed in 1968 in Toronto, Rush rose from Canada’s club scene to become one of the most influential and technically accomplished rock bands of all time. Known for their elaborate compositions, thought-provoking lyrics, and unmatched musicianship, the trio earned legions of fiercely loyal fans, along with critical respect that grew steadily throughout their career. Their 1976 breakthrough “2112” cemented their status as rock innovators, and albums like “Moving Pictures” (1981) and “Permanent Waves” (1980) became cornerstones of the progressive rock canon.
Now, after more than a decade off the road, Lee and Lifeson are returning with a show designed to honor that storied past, while introducing a new chapter.
“It’s been over 10 years since Alex and I have performed the music of Rush alongside our fallen bandmate and friend Neil,” Lee said in a statement. “We’ve done some serious soul searching and come to the decision that we … miss it. It’s time for a celebration of 50-something years of Rush music.”
Joining Lee and Lifeson on drums is acclaimed German musician Anika Nilles, who previously toured with guitar icon Jeff Beck and has released four solo albums of her own. Lee called her “an incredible drummer” who is helping expand Rush’s sound for this new era.
“Neil was irreplaceable,” said Lee, “but life is full of surprises. We could not be more excited to introduce Anika to our loyal and dedicated fanbase.”
The “Fifty Something” tour will include seven cities across North America, with two-night engagements in major markets like Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, and Toronto. Each “Evening With” performance will feature two full sets, with setlists pulled from a rotating catalogue of 35 tracks, including hits, deep cuts, and fan favorites.
Peart’s widow, Carrie Nuttall-Peart, and daughter, Olivia Peart, also voiced their support for the upcoming shows.
“Neil’s musicianship was singular,” they shared in a statement. “As both drummer and lyricist, he was inimitable. He profoundly shaped how fans connected with the band, giving voice and meaning to their own lives.”
The band celebrated the announcement with a private fan event at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland and also released a video filmed at Lee’s home studio, offering a sneak peek at what’s to come.
Alongside the tour, Rush recently unveiled “Rush 50”, a sprawling 50-track anthology chronicling their journey from scrappy Toronto newcomers to global rock icons. The collection features the first-ever reissue of their 1973 debut single and ends with a live version of the final song Peart ever played with the band in 2015.
