Foo Fighters’ New Song: An ‘Emotional Roller-Coaster’ Dedicated To Kurt Cobain
Producer says new song is about Nirvana legend
With grunge-rockers at the edge of their ears in anticipation of the new Foo Fighters album, mega-producer Butch Vig is opening up about the recording sessions. In an interview with MTV News, he reveals the band recorded the new songs completely analog (“until post-mastering”) in Dave Grohl’s garage-like studio in the California Valley. On a 24-track tape, to boot.
The forthcoming, still untitled album, out April 12, will reportedly contain 11 tracks.
“We had [Nirvana bass player] Krist Novoselic come in and play bass [on the song], and I’m not exactly sure what the song’s about, but to me, it seems there’s definitely some references about Kurt Cobain, and it’s one of the most primal, raw things the Foo Fighters have ever done, and I think it’s one of the best tracks on the record,” Vig said via the MTV interview. “It’s distorted and raw, and Dave, the take on the vocals is like the first take he did at the end of the song. He’s just blowing his lungs out. … We played the record for some people yesterday, and the whole record is great, but that song, God, it’s quite an emotional roller-coaster ride when you hear it.”
The Foo has also started up a new website, http://www.foofighters.fm, to showcase its new rock.
