Oh, Sleeper, ‘Endseekers’ – Song Review
New Oh, Sleeper Song Brings Thick Metallic Grind
Oh, Sleeper always had a gift for fusing hardcore with melody in just the right measures. The Fort Worth, Texas-based metal-core band proves that, and more, on their new single, “Endseekers.” The track comes off the band’s upcoming album, Children of Fire, out Sept. 27.
From the opening, ripping riff, Oh, Sleeper bring a thick metallic grind, as lead vocalist Micah Kinard bursts in with the opening, scene-stealing lyrics, screaming:
“Pry your eyes and behold our captain / Rally round his feet / As he controls his captive / Bring him to his knees”
There’s loads of brutal, pummeling metal throughout the track, but Oh, Sleeper also teeter a delicate balance between melody and aggressiveness. Sky-high guitar solos and dark drum fills accentuate the drama and breakdowns.
As Kinard focuses on interchanging his screaming voice with Shane Blay’s sung one, the song’s depth and profundity grow exponentially. Blay’s clean, clear vocals really come through on the chorus’ empowering, faith-filled plea:
“So long all you children / Don’t go! We’re almost there! / Your road is not yet coming to an end”
If there was ever a doubt that Oh, Sleeper can stand in the same circles as Killswitch Engage or Underoath, those worries are gone with the explosive “Endseekers.” After hearing the single, Audio Ink Radio is stoked for the new album, which was mixed by Machine (Chiodos, Lamb of God) and produced by Andreas Magnusson (Black Dahlia Murder, Haste the Day).
