Christian alternative rockers Switchfoot are making plans for their 8th annual Bro-Am event, a unique rock concert of sorts that combines live music with a surfing contest. The happening — which takes place on June 16 at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas, Calif. — will raise funds for StandUp for Kids, an association that strives to serve homeless, at-risk and street kids. So far, the bands slated to play this year’s show include Dead Feather Moon, the Howls and Brandon and Leah and and Jon Foreman & Friends, to name a few. Since its inception in 2005, the Bro-Am has raised more than $500,000 for San Diego-based children’s charities.

“The Bro-Am has been my favorite day of the year ever since we started it back in ‘05,” Switchfoot singer Jon Foreman said in a statement. “To see our hometown come together to help out a deserving group of kids is an incredible experience — surfing, music, and the San Diego scene at its best. We feel truly honored to again partner with StandUp for Kids, an incredible organization serving at-risk youth here in San Diego and across the country. Last year was our biggest year ever, and we hope to top it again this year.”

Tickets for Bro-Am go on sale starting this Friday (April 27). For more information, head to Switchfoot’s official website. In other news, Switchfoot — which brings together singer and guitarist Jon Foreman, bass player Tim Foreman, drummer Chad Butler, keyboard player and guitarist Jerome Fontamillas and guitarist Drew Shirley — recently launched their 2012 U.S. headlining tour.
