Gotye’s hit track ‘Someobdy That I Used to Know’ is No. 1 for a seventh week

If Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know” seems like the song that will never go away, that’s because, well, it’s pretty much the song that just won’t go away. Gotye just received the good news that his smash single has scored its seventh week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making it 2012’s longest-running No. 1 hit. The previous record for 2012’s longest-running No. 1 song was held by fun.’s “We Are Young,” which sat at the top spot for six weeks.

In scoring that seventh week at No. 1, “Somebody That I Used to Know” has also notched the title of longest-running No. 1 hit by a male musician since 2010. Eminem’s 2010 hit “Love the Way You Lie” is the last track by a male artist to sit at No. 1 for seven weeks straight.

“Somebody That I Used to Know” isn’t just a one-genre hit, either. The track has also hit No. 1 on a variety of other Billboard charts, including alternative, dance and pop.

Fans that can’t get enough of “Somebody That I Used to Know” are in luck, as Gotye has announced that he will release 10 remixes of the track featuring Kimbra via iTunes this month. The set comes ahead of his just-announced North American tour that kicks off in August. The “Somebody That I Used to Know” remix set will drop as a bundle on iTunes on June 8, and in the collection, expect new versions of the hit song by Tiesto, Adrock and Gang Colours, among others.
