Dave Matthews says he and his band are working on their follow-up to 2012’s ‘Away from the World’

Dave Matthews Band released their latest album, “Away from the World,” just last year, but the group is already working on new music. According to frontman Dave Matthews, the group is having a blast coming up with ideas for the upcoming set.

“I’ve been in the studio trying to get a couple of things ready for the band to go back in, having fun,” Matthews said in an interview with Rolling Stone. “I’m just trying to come up with something that doesn’t sound like the past.”

The group’s upcoming album, of course, will offer some new tunes, but Matthews says the set may also include some songs that fans have already heard on the road-— just not from a studio yet. “There are some songs the band has been playing for a long time,” he explained. “And then whenever I start messing around in the studio, I start writing, so hopefully we can come up with something worth listening to.”

“Away from the World” entered the Billboard 200 album chart at No. 1, making Dave Matthews Band the first band to score six consecutive No. 1 album debuts.
