A special, acoustic version of Kings of Leon’s ‘Last Mile Home’ is featured on the ‘August: Osage County’ soundtrack

When Kings of Leon set out to write and record a tune for the “August: Osage County,” soundtrack, they had a hunch it would come naturally, since they have a sort of bond with the movie.

“It was a story we could all easily relate to,” frontman Caleb Followill told Rolling Stone. “The dynamic between family is always something that you look forward to, and dread at the same time.  Not only are we family, but we all have very strong Oklahoma ties, so we totally relate to that ‘frontier grit.'”

“Last Mile Home” is the Kings of Leon song that appears on the “August: Osage County,” which drops on Jan. 7. The soundtrack features a special, acoustic version of “Last Mile Home,” while the plugged-in version first appeared on the deluxe edition of Kings of Leon’s latest full-length, “Mechanical Bull.”

“It was important for us to create a song to complement such a beautiful film,” Followill said.  “We submitted the song, then went out on the road, then had to find a few days to record between tours.  It was a tight squeeze, but we made it happen.”

“August: Osage Count” is in theaters on today, Christmas Day (Dec. 25).
