Metallica’s ‘Some Kind of Monster’ reissue and ‘Lords of Summer’ Black Friday Record Store Day release will hit stores this fall

Metallica’s “Some Kind of Monster” celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, and the band will release a special, two-Blu-ray collection and digital download to commemorate the occasion. The film takes fans behind the scenes of Metallica’s lengthy career, showing the personal and professional side of the band members, which isn’t always rosy.

“Some Kind of Monster,” which premiered in 2004, shows a little bit of everything: inner band fights, backstage therapy, James Hetfield’s vocal lessons and live footage. It’s also a bit of an emotional story, especially when fans see how close the guys of Metallica came to calling it quits.

The Blu-ray set will arrive on Nov. 24, just in time for the holidays. The reissue also includes a retrospective 25-minute feature, “Metallica: This Monster Lives,” that Metallica and the documentary’s filmmakers, Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky, put together in February 2013.

In addition, Metallica will release a special black vinyl “Lords of Summer” single in indie record stores on Black Friday Record Store Day. The vinyl will include the studio version of the song, plus a live version recorded at Metallica’s Rock in Rome Sonisphere Festival set in July.
