Watch: Trailer for the upcoming documentary on late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain

A trailer for the first-ever authorized documentary about late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, “Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck,” has made its way online. The clip shows viewers Cobain’s happy childhood, sharp artistic tendencies and desire to enjoy a normal life away from the spotlight with wife Courtney Love and daughter Frances Bean Cobain. Brett Morgen wrote, directed and produced the film, and Frances serves as an executive producer.

The trailer shows snapshots of Cobain as a child, playing guitar and blowing out candles on his birthday cake. Images of Cobain later in life pop up, rocking hard with his Nirvana bandmates. Family members and Nirvana bass player Krist Novoselic also appear in the clip.

The film boasts plenty of previously unreleased home video footage, diary entries, sketches and more from Cobain’s archive. Morgen was given unparalleled access to the Cobain family’s personal files to help create this film and truly tell Cobain’s story.

The film premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival. HBO Documentary Films, Universal Pictures International and Public Road Productions created the film.
