We Are Harlot on Cranking Out ‘Honest Rock ‘n’ Roll’

Interview: We Are Harlot are like a classic rock band for today

We Are Harlot are packed with big-named musicians, but that’s not the only reason the guy jetted to the top of the rock charts with their early singles, “Dancing on Nails” and “Someday.” Ask guitarist Jeff George, and he’ll tell you it’s all about the band’s music being “honest rock ‘n’ roll.”

“I think the music that we make is more of a classic rock band, and in this climate of music today, it’s not the most popular thing in the world to go start a classic rock band, but we wanted to play what was truthful to us, and that’s what it was, and that’s why it works,” George told Audio Ink Radio backstage at Louder than Life festival in Louisville, Kentucky, last weekend.

“You hear the personalities of us and the honest sound of it,” he added, “and I think that’s why it works.”

Of course, having a roster of popular musicians didn’t hurt. That includes former Asking Alexandria vocalist Danny Worsnop.

“We’ve got a group of musicians who were all really well known anywhere, so with us being together, everyone already knew it was happening, so it was a lot of promotion behind it, so we didn’t expect it to take a long time,” Worsnop said.

Making real, raw rock means cranking up the guitars.

“Danny is trying to always get me to turn up the guitars louder, and I’m like, ‘Dude we want to hear a little bit if your voice! You‘re a decent singer!” laughed George. “It’s a give and take, but we work it out.”
