Blink-182 drummer wants to dabble in the jazz genre

Travis Barker may be best known for playing drums in Blink-182, but he also dabbles in other genres of music, such as hip-hop. Now, speaking with with MusicRadar, Barker discussed another musical aspiration– a jazzy one.

“When all’s said and done. I would love to do a jazz project,” he said. “That would be so much fun. Or even now if I had time, but there hasn’t been a lot of time. I would love to do that, I just love playing anything.”

At the moment, Barker is recording his upcoming solo album. His last solo album, Give the Drummer Some, dropped in 2011.

“I am 70 percent done with my new solo album,” Barker said. “The next part, the most important piece, is for me to go play drums on it now.”

“We’ve got the programming, I’ve made all of the beats, the second step was to get all of the artists and find out which artists sound great on which beats,” he added. “The third step is me playing drums on it, mixing it and then putting it out.”

Special guests on the upcoming solo set include Kendrick Lamar, Lil Wayne, Run the Jewels and Wiz Khalifa.

In other news, Blink-182 recently closed out their U.S. tour behind their latest album, California. The guys are scheduled to perform at the memorial concert in honor of late Linkin Park vocalist Chester Bennington on Oct. 27 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
