Former Flyleaf singer Lacey Sturm and Breaking Benjamin vocalist Benjamin Burnley are considering launching a side band together

Breaking Benjamin recently dropped the news that they’re working on an acoustic record with some special guests from the rock world, including RED’s Michael Barnes, Saint Asonia’s Adam Gontier, Underoath’s Spencer Chamberlain and former Flyleaf singer Lacey Sturm. Apparently, things went so well between the band and Sturm that Breaking Benjamin singer Benjamin Burnley is considering launching a side project together.

Burnley discussed the possible new side band with Sturm in a recent interview with Cutter’s RockCast. In the chat, Burnley said, “I don’t know if she’d be mad at me for saying anything about it, but me and Lacey have been talking about doing another band, putting a band together. We just wanna do, like, a record … We’ve been talking a bit here and there about it. It’d just be something different. I think that’d be really cool.”

Burnley added that he and Sturm have known each other for years. “One of the first tours, I think, they [Flyleaf] ever did — not the first, but one of the first tours they did ever — was with us,” he said. “And it was a lot of fun. It was a lot different back in those days. Enough success to have fun, but not overboard, and it was all new and everything. She was always really cool; the whole band was always really, really cool.”

He added, “I was really blown away by her inflection and her style. If you think I’m unique, she is one hundred percent unique — but in a good way. Sometimes singers that are unique, for me… I don’t wanna put anybody down, but sometimes people are different just to be different — it’s not really good; it’s just different. But she’s different and… [doing] her own thing. She’s a really positive person and she does put off a positive vibe, which is really refreshing, especially for me — [since] I can be a negative person,” he added. “She’s just a really nice, sweet, genuine person. Singing-wise, I really respect her.”

Breaking Benjamin is currently on a North American amphitheater tour with Chevelle and Three Days Grace.
