Listen to Sevendust’s new cover version of the Soundgarden song “The Day I Tried to Live,” marking the band’s first new music in two years

After several days of hinting at something new on the way, Sevendust has debuted a cover of the Soundgarden classic, “The Day I Tried to Lie.”

The new cover marks the first bit of new music from the Atlanta metal band in roughly two years. The song comes with a music video featuring a lonely-looking figure walking down a road, spliced together with live footage of the band performing. Watch the full video via YouTube below.

“Soundgarden is such an important band to all of us in Sevendust and this love for them goes all the way back to when we were starting,” Sevendust frontman Lajon Witherspoon said in a statement.

“When I first heard [‘The Day I Tried to Live’], I thought the lyrics were timeless,” Witherspoon added. “The lyrics are about trying to experience new things and change the way you live, and we see examples of that every day with what is happening around the world. To have the chance to cover this song and release it is so special to all of us. Thank you, Chris Cornell and Soundgarden.”

Sevendust’s latest studio album is 2018’s “All I See Is War.” The band’s album prior to that, 2015’s “Kill the Flaw,” garnered the guys their first Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance for the song “Thank You.”
