Chino Moreno’s side project Crosses surprised the world with a new song on Christmas day: a cover of “The Beginning of the End.”

On Christmas day (Dec. 25), Deftones frontman Chino Moreno released a surprise gift to the world: the first new song from his band Crosses’ band in six years. The release is a cover of “The Beginning of the End” from the ’90s electropop band Cause & Effect. Listen to the song, which is available for streaming and download at the digital online outlets, below.

“The Beginning of the End” features Moreno, Deftones guitarist Shaun Lopez and bassist Chuck Doom. The band got their start in Los Angeles in 2011 and released their debut EP that same year. The band’s music strays from the most alt-metal sounds of Deftones with an emphasis on electronic rock and dream pop textures.

Along with the new song, on Christmas Eve (Dec. 24), Crosses also updated their social media accounts for the first time since 2018. No word on whether a full-length album is in the works, but if so, it will mark the follow-up to the band’s 2014-released, self-titled record.

In related news, Deftones released their latest album, “Ohms,” in September. The release, which marks Deftones’ follow-up to 2016’s “Gore,” has been praised as one of the band’s strongest albums. “Ohms” is included in Audio Ink Radio’s list of the Top 60 Rock and Metal Albums of 2020.
