Creed are poised for a comeback in 2012

If you’ve heard the rumor that Creed — one of the biggest bands to emerge from the late’-90s post-grunge scene  — are getting back together next year to not only tour but also write a new album, you heard right. As a warm-up for what’s ahead, the guys have booked three pairs of cozy, two-night shows in Chicago, New York and Philadelphia, where Creed will perform their definitive albums My Own Prison and Human Clay from start to finish. 2012 brings the 15th anniversary of My Own Prison (Has it really been that long?), Creed’s debut album, which went onto sell 6 million albums. Human Clay nearly doubled that total, pushing 11 million records sold.

The dates include April 13-14 at the Chicago Theatre in Chicago, April 16-17 at Tower Theatre in Philadelphia and April 19-20 at the Beacon Theatre in New York City. For each pair, the first date has Creed performing My Own Prison and the second Human Clay.

Creed and Alter Bridge guitarist Mark Tremonti exclusively told Audio Ink Radio that he and the guys are raring to get back on the road with Creed. “We plan on doing a lot of touring next year, and we’ll either write as we’re touring or write beforehand,” he explained. “It’s still kind of up in the air.”

Tremonti, one of the most proficient rock guitarists of today, went on to name his favorite six-stringers of the moment. “Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jeff Beck, Audley Freed, Derek Truck and Warren Haynes,” he said. “They just have so much feel and heart in their playing. I grew up a metal guy and got into shred stuff, so I’ve always been  chasing after the guys with all the feel and the phrasing, and as I’ve gotten older, that’s what I’ve really been chasing at it. Those are the best at it.” Read more of Audio Ink Radio’s recently interview with Tremonti on the interviews page. (Courtesy photo via Wind-Up Records.)
