My Chemical Romance, AFI and Alkaline Trio Members Start New Band
Matt Skiba and the Sekrets bring together members of alternative bands
There’s a new alternative rock supergroup in town, and it’s a doozy. Alkaline Trio frontman Matt Skiba has announced that his is putting together a fresh side project with members of My Chemical Romance and AFI. The group are shooting to release their debut LP, “Babylon,” sometime this year.
The group will go by the name Matt Skiba and the Sekrets, bringing together the musical talents of Skiba, AFI bass player Hunter Burgan and My Chemical Romance touring drummer Jarrod Alexander, the latter who played drums on My Chemical Romance’s fall 2011 tour, after they let drummer Michael Pedicone go.
Skiba says the side project is a way for him to craft music of his own. “Creating a record on my own and deciding who plays and how the songs were structured, it was fun to do,” he said in an official statement. “I love working with my band-mates in Alkaline Trio, but to make a rock record that was just mine was something that I wanted to do.”
The band already have a label in Superball Music, the force behind Dredg and Oceansize. “I am so delighted to be working with Superball Music,” Skiba said. “It was extremely important for the Matt Skiba and the Sekrets project to find the proper home. I am honored and ecstatic to have found a label that is as enthusiastic about this project as I am. I am very thankful to have Superball in my corner and look forward to the growth of our relationship and to the growth of this project.”
In the meantime, My Chemical Romance are shooting to release the follow-up to their 2010 release, “Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys,” in 2012. Alkaline Trio will play a U.K. tour in May.
