Heavy metal icons Metallica post teaser video for upcoming announcement
Two thousand twelve is shaping up to be a big year for Metallica. The heavy metal gents just posted a teaser video telling fans that they will make a special announcement on Tuesday, Feb. 7, at 11 a.m. PST, regarding some top-secret upcoming plans.
The text in the video reads, “You’ve seen them at festivals across the world. But you’ve never seen them… Tune in Tuesday, February 7 at 11 a.m. PST. Metallica.com.” Will do, guys! Watch the “Save the Date” video for the announcement, below.
Metallica drum man Lars Ulrich hinted during the band’s 30th-anniversary concerts in December that the band would make an announcement in January about a unique interactive fan event set for June. Just what do the guys have up their heavy metal sleeves? It could be anything from a full-fledged U.S. tour to a new online venture. At least fans won’t have to wait long to find out
Metallica are also one of the more prominent headliners for this year’s Download Festival, and they’re promising more than just your everyday heavy music set. Speaking on Zane Low’s show in Radio 1, Metallica Ulrich dropped the good news that, as part of the group’s set, they will play their blockbuster 1991 album, known as “The Black Album,” in its entirety. That’s a lot of Metallica!
Joining Metallica at this year’s Download Festival include Black Sabbath (with or without drummer Bill Ward), Prodigy, Steel Panther, Slash with Myles Kennedy, Megadeth, Rise Against, As I Lay Dying, Trivium, Five Finger Death Punch and many more. The show takes play at Donington Park from June 8 to 10.
