First listen: ‘Razors Out,’ featuring Deftones singer Chino Moreno

When Mike Shinoda isn’t busy laying down rhymes for Linkin Park, he keeps plenty busy, and Shinoda’s latest endeavor is penning the upcoming score / soundtrack for the film “The Raid: Redemption.” A song from the soundtrack has surfaced online, and it features Deftones singer Chino Moreno, to boot. Watch and listen to the track, below.

The name of the new track is “Razors Out,” and Moreno’s vocals sounds smooth and powerful on the track. “The Raid: Redemption” is set to open in North American theaters on March 23.

When it came to writing the soundtrack for “The Raid: Redemption,” Shinoda says it was refreshing to not have to deal with coming up with a story to tell with the songs. “Yeah, that was fun to do. When you’re making a song or an album, then you’re telling your own story,” he told Artist Direct. “It’s hard. You start with a blank page, and you’re like, ‘What do I write about?’ You’ve got to come up with everything. It’s about you at the end of the day. The story is already there with the movie though. I’ve got this great platform to build on and support. Gareth made an incredible film, and I was happy to play a supporting role.”

Shinoda says he pulled inspiration from “darker movies” for the soundtrack, even though, “I’m not a very dark person. I’m not a very depressed, angry person or anything, but the kinds of movies I love tend to be action, horror, or stuff like that.
