Guns N’ Roses Bassist Comments on Scott Weiland and Velvet Revolver
Duff McKagan on Velvet Revolver reuniting: ‘I don’t even want to try and guess anymore’
Fans holding their breaths to see if Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland will get back with the guys of Guns N’ Roses to resurrect Velvet Revolver’s original lineup may be a bit disappointed with the latest news on the matter. Speaking with Rolling Stone, GN’R bass player Duff McKagan explained that Velvet Revolver’s recent one-off reunion was simply for charity, and the guys have no intent to hook back up with Weiland on a permanent basis.
“No. We just did that thing for our friend who passed, for his wife and kids,” Duff said when asked if fans should read into the band’s one-time reunion with Weiland. “I’d be surprised…you know what? I don’t even want to try and guess anymore. Who knows what’s gonna happen? I’m cool with anything, and if it feels right at the time, it’ll be the thing to do and we’ll talk about it then.”
McKagan also praised the talents of Stone Sour vocalist Corey Taylor, who at one point talked to the guys of Velvet Revolver about possibility filling in on vocals. “…When you’re a musician you are around your peers a lot, like Slipknot and Alice In Chains…you name the band. We’re all just kind of friends,” McKagan said. “The Corey thing came up. If you’re asking me, I think that Corey is the best singer of his age group, which is about eight years younger than me. He’s the best pound-for-pound singer around and I’d like to explore that. And it still might happen one day. That guy is in, like, fifteen bands. But he’s bad ass and the real deal and it comes from the right place with him. I have nothing but cool things to say about Corey.”
