Zakk Wylde ‘Bringing Metal’ Author Eric Hendrikx Talks Genesis of Book
Exclusive: ‘Bringing Metal to the Children’ co-author Eric Hendrikx says Zakk Wylde ‘loves kids’
Fans have just a few weeks to go until Black Label Society frontman Zakk Wylde churns out his much-anticipated new read, “Bringing Metal to the Children.” The book, which was co-authored by Eric Hendrikx (pictured above, with Wylde), features tales from the tour bus, trips for staying true to all things metal, recommendations for how to survive a colossal metal trek and more. It arrives on April 10 via William Morrow, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers. Watch the just-released trailer for the book, below.
In an exclusive interview with Audio Ink Radio, Hendrikx explained the genesis of ‘Bringing Metal to the Children,’ which started with his desire to write a book about his longtime friend and comrade, Wylde.
“The last two books I worked on for HarperCollins were written with former UFC light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin,” Hendrikx explained. “They were both New York Times bestsellers. After the success of those books, I told my literary agent that I wanted to focus on music and write a book with Zakk. He loved the idea and so did my publisher.
“I put together a book proposal and went to lunch with Zakk and his Black Label think tank to review my initial concept. They all loved it. The only hiccup was that our original editor wanted us to call the book ‘Scaring the Children’ or something lame like that.
“I explained that Zakk is not about scaring children. He loves kids. He’s got three and one on the way. Zakk is actually more like the Santa Claus of heavy metal. So I suggested the title ‘Bringing Metal to the Children’ and it stuck. They loved it. Zakk loved it. We went right to work. Zakk and I wrote the entire manuscript at his home in between his touring and other legendary rock and roll duties.” Check back for the full interview with Hendrikx in the coming weeks.
