Thrash icons Metallica offer video footage of Orion Music + More Festival’s first day

Last weekend was a big one for the men of Metallica. The chaps debuted their own Orion Music + More annual music, arts and lifestyle festival, featuring a mind-spinning mix of metal and indie talent from the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Avenged Sevenfold, the Gaslight Anthem, Cage the Elephant, Best Coast, Kyng, Landmine Marathon, Titus Andronicus, Gary Clark Jr., Lucero, Roky Erickson, the Sword, A Place to Bury Strangers, Liturgy and more. All in all, it was a meaty and diverse lineup, with everything from country (Eric Church) to metal (Sepultura) to alternative rock (Modest Mouse).

If you missed all the musical action last weekend, don’t fret. The thrash legends have posted a 49-minute video online that pretty much sums up the first day of the festival, which happened last Saturday (June 23) in Atlantic City, N.J. The video footage offers clips from Metallica’s headlining set, packing lengthy performances of “Escape” and “The Call of Ktulu” off their influential 1984 release, “Ride the Lightning,” which Metallica played from front-to-back that evening.

Other fun captured on the video include frontman James Hetfield playing around with a hot rod and lead guitarist Kirk Hammett’s panel session regarding his much-anticipated, upcoming horror memorabilia book, “Too Much Horror Business.” As for the rest of Metallica’s festival schedule, the guys are set to play the 2012 Outside Lands Festival at San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, which runs August 10 through 12. Foo Fighters, Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Stevie Wonder, Jack White and Beck are also slated to perform at Outside Lands.
