Corey Taylor Addresses ‘Spiritual Regurgitation’ in ‘Talk Sick’
Corey Taylor on “Talk Sick”: It’s about “trying to purge yourself of demons that have been clinging to you because of prior relationships”
Rock mainstay Corey Taylor is coming up on the release of his sophomore solo album, “CMF2,” out Sept. 15. He’s also shared a pair of singles off the set in “Post Traumatic Blues” and “Beyond.” Now, the Slipknot and Stone Sour vocalist has shared a new track, “Talk Sick.”
While Taylor makes heavy metal and hard rock in Slipknot and Stone Sour, the frontman really experiments and delves into other genres with his solo work. “Talk Sick” is a perfect example of Taylor’s experimental side. The song features some punk-flavored guitar riffs, huge power-pop melodies and a nostalgic vibe.
As for the recording of this song, Taylor, in a press release, actually says that he played the guitar in the beginning “through a speaker about the size of a coffee cup.”
“It made it sound violent; you feel like you’re being stung by bees who are playing along to the Sex Pistols,” Taylor added. “There’s an element of spiritual regurgitation, trying to purge yourself of demons that have been clinging to you because of prior relationships, romantic or otherwise. You realize those people bring a certain a**hole side out of you that you don’t necessarily want in your life. It’s about trying to lance that boil and get that sickness out of you.”
So, the song is about getting rid of negative people in your life and not letting past traumas haunt you. It’s a theme that should resonate with a lot of people.
In other news, Taylor will be touring the U.S. in support of “CMF2” later this month. The tour will begin on Friday, Aug. 25, in Denver, Colorado. Find tour dates here. He said that he maybe has “another five years left of physically touring like this.”
