Christian metallers set to release new album in September

Christian metal doesn’t get much more ferocious than San Diego-based metal act As I Lay Dying. The guys are gearing up for the release of their sixth studio album, “Awakened,” which is slated to arrive on Sept. 25 via Metal Blade Records.

With the album release just about a month away, As I Lay Dying have finished up shooting the music video for their new single, “A Greater Foundation.” Director Drew Russ (Falling in Reverse, A Day to Remember) shot the clip in Los Angeles, and Robby Starbuck produced it. Look for the video to premiere in the coming weeks.

As I Lay Dying bass player Josh Gilbert says shooting the video was a blast. “We were all impressed with Drew’s ability to capture the intensity of live band performances in his videos, and ‘A Greater Foundation’ is no exception,” Gilbert said in an official statement. “Drew’s technique, along with the all-day participation of some of our diehard fans in Los Angeles, definitely accentuated the energy of the song and makes for an exciting and dynamic video. We can’t wait to unveil it!”

As I Lay Dying recently wrapped up a stint playing the 2012 Mayhem Festival, and Audio Ink Radio caught up with drummer Jordan Mancino at the fest. During the chat, he explained that while the members of As I Lay Dying are all Christians, fans don’t have to be Christian to appreciate their music. “We’re all Christians, but I don’t think because a band is made up of Christian members that you’re just a Christian band,” he said. “We like to represent who we are on stage and provide a reality, but it’s not just for Christians.” (Photo credit: Audio Ink Radio.)
