Primus’ Les Claypool Says Band’s Upcoming 3D Tour is ‘Adventurous’
Primus frontman Les Claypool says tour will offer a ‘trippy’ experience
Bass great Les Claypool and his band Primus are set for a big fall tour, which kicks off on Oct. 12 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and runs through Nov. 10 in Miami. As frontman Les Claypool, and he’ll tell you that this isn’t just any tour. Claypool says to expect a trippy, 3D experience with a special 3D backdrop screen, psychedelic effects and an enhanced sound system.
“It’s a pretty adventurous undertaking,” Claypool told Billboard.com of the tour. “The past couple of years, Primus has gotten pretty psychedelic. We keep joking that we’re bringing acid rock back to the masses, and I think this is another enhancing element of that.”
Claypool says that the upcoming tour isn’t an entire shot in the dark. The band tried out the new system and effects during a recent show in San Francisco. “Had we not done it once before, I’d be a little skeptical,” he said. “But the show we did at the San Francisco Opera House was pretty amazing, and the notion of touring it seems to be an even more amazing concept, so we’re doing it.”
Fans planning to hit more than one stop of Primus’ upcoming tour won’t have to worry about getting served the same show. “Every show will be different,” Claypool said. “Different environments, as far as venues, are going to lend themselves to different experiences, depending on where you are and whatnot in the crowd. It’s very heady.” For a list of Primus’ upcoming tour dates, visit the band’s official website.
