Mad Season to Release ‘Above’ Double-Vinyl on Record Store Day
Grunge greats Mad Season are gearing up for a special vinyl release in support of Record Store Day
Record Store Day 2013 is fast approaching, as the annual event falls on April 20 this year. The day promises to offering something for nearly every musical taste, and grunge is no exception, as Mad Season have announced they’ll be offering up a release as part of this year’s Record Store Day.
Mad Season, of course, is the grunge supergroup of sorts that brought together late Alice in Chains frontman Layne Staley, Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready and drummer Barrett Martin. On April 20, the group will be releasing an expanded version of the of the outfit’s sole studio release, 1995’s “Above.” As for what to expect from the package, the double 12” vinyl release will pack the original album, plus three lost tracks from Mad Season’s unfinished sophomore album featuring new lyrics and vocals by ex-Screaming Trees singer Mark Lanegan. The set will also feature an unreleased instrumental track called “Interlude,” plus a remixed adaptation of Mad Season’s famed cover of John Lennon’s “I Don’t Wanna Be a Soldier.”
The band will also be releasing a deluxe edition of their “Above” album on April 2.
Each year, Record Store Day is devoted to supporting local, independently-owned brick-and-mortar stores and classic vinyl via various releases that are available exclusively at record shops.
