Linkin Park Frontman Chester Bennington Sings on New Stone Temple Pilots Song, ‘Out of Time’

The guys of Stone Temple Pilots recently announced they would be performing at the annual MusiCares MAP Fund benefit concert without longtime singer Scott Weiland on vocals. They did a great job of keeping their mystery frontman secret, and last night (May 18), the guys made a dramatic appearance at the 2013 KROQ Weenie Roast in Irvine, Calif., with none other than Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington. The group also debuted a new track at the show, “Out of Time.”

Bennington and the three members of Stone Temple Pilots surprised the crowed during the annual event, performing a number of STP classics. The group also dropped the news that Bennington has been recording with the Stone Temple Pilots and released a studio version of “Out of Time,” which can be streamed below.

Stone Temple Pilots guitarist Dean DeLeo told KROQ that the band couldn’t be happier to be working with Bennington. “Chester has a one-of-a-kind voice that we’ve admired for a long time,” he said. “We know Linkin Park will always be his priority, but we thought it would be cool to try something together. We managed to find the time to record a song and we’re all really happy with the result.”

Meanwhile, Bennington says singing with Stone Temple Pilots is something of a dream come true. “I’ve loved STP since I was 13 years old and they’ve had a huge influence on me,” he said. “When the opportunity came up to do something creative with them, I jumped at the chance.”

Chester added that his participation with Stone Temple Pilots in no way diminished his commitment with Linkin Park. “The guys in Linkin Park have been incredibly supportive of me undertaking this project while I’ve continued to work on new music with LP,” he said.
