The film, which is all about former South African leader Nelson Mandela, is slated to reach theaters on Nov. 29.
U2 shared the news via their offciial website, stating that the new tune is called “Ordinary Love.” Fans can hear a clip of the song in the trailer for the movie. The tune will also appear on the movie’s soundtrack.
“We are delighted to have U2 write an original song for ‘Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom’,” the film’s producer, Anant Singh, said in a statement. “This is really fitting as U2 has always been a staunch supporter of Madiba (Mandela).”
Singh added that he recently met the guys of U2 and knew they would be perfect for this soundtrack. “As a board member of Madiba’s 46664 anti AIDS initiative together with U2, I was fortunate to be with them when we visited Robben Island together, accompanied by Madiba.”
