U2 to Perform for More Than 300,000 Fans at Las Vegas Residency

U2 will play their first concerts since December of 2019 during a Las Vegas residency at the new Sphere

U2 have announced the dates for their 2023 residency at the new Sphere in Las Vegas. The residency, called “U2:UV Achtung Baby Live At Sphere,” will kick off Friday, September 29, 2023. Following the opening night gig, U2 will also play a growing list of dates that currently extend through Nov. 4, 2023. Tickets for the shows sold out so quickly that Ticketmaster canceled their general on sale for the concerts.

The Las Vegas residency is extra special, because the shows mark U2’s first confirmed live concerts in four years. As previously reported, drummer Larry Mullen Jr. will not be there, as he takes undergoes surgery. Drummer Bram van den Berg will step in for him and perform alongside Bono, The Edge and Adam Clayton. Over the course of the residency, U2 will perform for more than 300,000 people, according to a statement.

The Sphere is located near The Venetian on the Vegas strip. It’s a new, $1.8 billion, 20,000-seat performance venue with 580,000 square feet of LED paneling, 170,000 ultra-directional speakers and a haptic flooring system. Find more information on the upcoming residency via U2’s website.

“U2 hasn’t played live since December 2019 and we need to get back on stage and see the faces of our fans again. And what a unique stage they’re building for us out there in the desert… We’re the right band, ‘Achtung Baby’ the right album and Sphere the right venue to take the live experience of music to the next level,” the band said in a statement. “That’s what U2’s been trying to do all along with our satellite stages and video installations, most memorably on the ‘ZOO TV Tour,’ which ended in Tokyo 30 years ago this fall.”

In other news, earlier this year, U2 recently their “Songs of Surrender” album. The set featured 40 songs from their lengthy catalog.
