Soundgarden Drummer Matt Cameron Sitting Out 2014 Tour Due to Pearl Jam Commitments
Matt Cameron won’t be appearing on Soundgarden’s upcoming tour due to commitments to his other band, Pearl Jam
Soundgarden have plans for a big 2014 tour, but the band won’t have Matt Cameron behind the drum kit this time around. The longtime Soundgarden drummer just dropped the news that he won’t appear on the outfit’s upcoming trek, but it’s for a good reason: He’ll be touring with his other grunge band, Pearl Jam.
“I will be taking 2014 off from Soundgarden touring due to prior commitments promoting (Pearl Jam’s latest studio album) ‘Lightning Bolt’ with my brothers in Pearl Jam and the desire to have more time at home with my family,” Cameron said in a message on Soundgarden’s official website. “This is temporary. I am still an active member of Soundgarden.”
As for who will replace Cameron, that’s still up in the air. The drummer says the band is “in the process of finding the perfect substitute” to fill in for him on the new dates.
Pearl Jam recently performed a short North American tour, and right now, the band has a handful of dates scheduled for early 2014. Meanwhile, Soundgarden has some big overseas festival shows coming up, including Lollapalooza festivals in Chile, Brazil and Argentina next spring.
