Arcade Fire’s latest release, ‘Reflektor,’ is filled with experimentation, says singer Win Butler

Arcade Fire singer Win Butler is happy with the band’s latest album, “Reflektor,” and he’s not shy about that pride. Speaking with “The Office” actor Rainn Wilson on Wilson’s online talk-show, “Metaphysical Milkshake,” Butler explained he experimented with music from different cultures – for example, Haitian music – on the album.

“The thing about music is that it exists in the air,” he said on the show. “There’s no…international boundaries. If you’re an artist, I don’t think that you’re supposed to be codifying things into these, like, weird cultural boxes.”

Going back to the weeks when “Reflektor” was first out, fans will recall that Arcade Fire decided to play some shows under the band name The Reflektors. When asked about that choice, Butler explains the group wanted to perform under a new name because it signifies that the band changes with each new album.

“It’s almost like we’re launching a new band every time. That’s kind of how we’ve always approached it,” he said. “

Right now, Arcade Fire are set to hit the road as, yes, Arcade Fire. The band will set off on a North American tour beginning on March 6 at the KFC Yum Center! in Louisville, Ky. To view the band’s full upcoming tour schedule, head to Arcade Fire’s official website.
