Tool Not Finished with New Album
Tool’s new album isn’t finished yet, despite reports to the contrary
Update: For Tool fans, the news of the band’s new album being finished was too good to be true. Tool has clarified that the band’s new album isn’t finished in this statement via Rolling Stone: “Last night, Adam Jones, in a private conversation with fans attending the Portland Tool concert, joked that the band’s new album was not only finished but coming out the next day. Unfortunately, his off-the-cuff joke was taken out of context. Work on the forthcoming album is ongoing and as soon as it is done, trust me, we will be the first to let everyone know.”
Is it possible that progressive rock band Tool will finally release a new album in 2014? According to Adam Jones, that new Tool album is on the way, as the guitarist has dropped the news that the group’s follow-up to 2006’s “10,000 Days” is completely finished. According to Crave Online, Jones attended a pre-show, VIP meet and greet Thursday (March 6) in Portland, Ore., during the band’s current spring tour, where he confirmed to one of the publication’s sources that Tool’s new album is “100 Percent done” and is slated to drop sometime later this year. Update: Tool says Jones was joking and that the album isn’t finished.
He also mentioned that the album was written using different time signatures than their previous releases, but other than that, he was pretty tight-lipped about the new tunes.
Tool haven’t been completely secretive about the fact their working on a new album. Last fall, the guys posted an album update to Tool’s official website stating the band had made “a lot of progress” on the new album, but that frontman Maynard James Keenan had yet to sing on any of the songs.
Right now, Tool are focused on touring. The band is on the road for a short U.S. spring tour, and Los Angeles alternative rock band Failure are serving as openers for most of the dates. Check out the itinerary here.
