Slash, Billy Corgan, Joan Jett and More Honored at Alternative Press Music Awards
The Alternative Press Music Awards recognize the best in alternative rock
The debut Alternative Press Music Awards took place last week, and the ceremony was packed with big-named musicians in rock. Aerosmith’s Joe Perry surprised the crowd by making an appearance at the show, which was held at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, presenting his tour mate Slash with the Guitar Legend Award.
“He came up in a generation after mine, but he always had great respect for the musicians who came on before him,” Perry said about the former Guns N’ Roses axeman. “To his own generation he became a superstar, and deservedly so. Now, to all generations, he’s become a model of great guitar playing and an icon of his own right.”
Other musicians honored at the event included Joan Jett, who was given the Icon Award, and Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan, who was presented the Vanguard Award. The show also featured performances by Jett, Fall Out Boy, the Misfits, rapper Ice-T’s metal band Body Count and Korn’s Jonathan Davis. As for random cover tunes, Davis and Asking Alexandria pulled out their over version of Duran Duran’s classic “Hungry Like the Wolf.”
