Meet the new band from Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic and hear their debut single

You, of course, know that Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl has a little band called Foo Fighters, but now, Nirvana bass player Krist Novoselic has a new band to boot.

Novoselic is a member of Giants in the Trees, and the group has released their first single. The song, called “Sasquatch,” is available via digital download. You also can check out the music video for “Sasquatch” on YouTube.

So, how does Giants in the Trees sound? Call it psychedelic rock with a quirky spirit.

Speaking with the Chinook Observer, Novoselic said, “It seems like people are into it.. We get good applause. I appreciate that people stick through all the songs they’ve never heard before. When I go see a band, I expect to see songs that I like of theirs. With this band, we’re asking a lot more. Here’s this whole-new band, so I appreciate people coming out and sticking around.”

In a funny comment on YouTube, Novoselic wrote, “This video cost over $2 million to make. The reason is, it was shot on a soundstage and all of the flora is made from plastic, foam and other materials to get that natural look.”

“I bought the property the video is filmed on. To pay for the production I cut all the trees and am now building a golf course on the land.”

Giants in the Trees have also announced a handful of tour dates in the Pacific Northwest next month. Find the list below.

8/4 — Seattle, WA, Slims Last Chance Saloon
