Judas Priest Releases Fiery New Song, ‘Firepower’ – Song Review
Another taste of the new Judas Priest album is here. The metal giants have unleashed a new track called “Firepower,” which marks the title track from their upcoming release. The song, which is streaming below via YouTube, lives up to its title, with fiery guitar riffing from Richie Faulkner and Glenn Tipton and the powerful vocals of Rob Halford.
If “Firepower” is a good representation of the upcoming set, expect classic metal songs and aggressive instrumentation to be plentiful. What really stands out about “Firepower” is the track’s classic feel and lyrics. “With weapons drawn we claim the future / And then seep out through every storm / Bring in the foe to be defeated / To pulverize from dusk to dawn.” This is a sound and style that should certainly appease longtime Judas Priest fans.
This album sees Judas Priest back with longtime producer Tom Allom and Grammy winner Andy Sneap. “Tom Allom has got this classic metal thing,” Halford said in a statement. “And Andy is a bit more of a ‘modern metal producer’ but his thinking is a little bit different to Tom’s. And I think to get this balance between that classic old school metal to what Andy’s world is was just a remarkable coalescence.”
“Tom Allom has been with us since 1979, so his knowledge of ourselves and our music in general is immense,” added bass player Ian Hill. As echoed by drummer Scott Travis, Priest got back to their roots on “Firepower” and went back to a recording method that they used for years when they were first making records. “We went back to the organic way of recording where it’s all of us in a room and we got to play together,” Travis said.
“Firepower” will hit stores on March 9 via Epic Records. The collection will mark the band’s follow-up to 2014’s “Redeemer of Souls,” which was Judas Priest’s first album will Faulkner in the crew. In other news, the British heavy metallers are gearing up for a North American tour to promote the new songs off “Firepower.” The tour will kick off March 13 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, and run through an April 5 gig in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
