Greta Van Fleet, Twenty One Pilots and Mike Shinoda all hope to spend time with family over the holidays and into the New Year

What do rock stars do over the holidays? For the guys of Greta Van Fleet, Twenty One Pilots and Mike Shinoda, the holidays consist of some much needed time with family and close friends.

Speaking with Kerrang! about their Christmas plans, Twenty One Pilots explained that after their gig in New Zealand last Friday (Dec. 21), they’re heading back to the U.S. to spend the period between Christmans and New Year in their hometown of Columbus, Ohio. It’s something of a tradition.

“I don’t think we’ve ever had a Christmas away from Columbus,” said drummer Josh Dun, who also just got engaged over the holidays.

Meanwhile, the guys of Greta Van Fleet are based in Michigan, but they have a special tradition of visiting Tennessee over Christmas.

“We make a whole week out of hiking and spending time with family,” vocalist Josh Kiszka said. “I just hope that everyone is surrounded by people they love for the holidays, and that they can spend quality time with their loved ones.”

“It’s a time to just breathe and be grateful,” he added. “With such limited down-time, we look forward to getting together with friends and family, and reflecting on a crazy year.”

Following a year of busy touring, Shinoda hopes to “lay low” over the Christmas season and into the New Year.

“We do Christmas Eve with my wife’s family, and then Christmas Day with my family,” Shinoda said. “Other than that, I might take a little vacation. I feel like I earned it!”
