Tom Morello and Serj Tankian Perform Audioslave’s ‘Like a Stone’ at Sonic Temple
Watch Serj Tankian of System of a Down and Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine perform Audioslave’s ‘Like a Stone’ at Sonic Temple
The first-ever Sonic Temple festival took place last weekend in Columbus, Ohio, and the event had no shortage of special moments. One performance garnering plenty of attention is when Tom Morello invited System of a Down’s Serj Tankian on stage to help pay honor to the late, great Chris Cornell during Morello’s solo set at the festival.
On the stage, Tankian joined Morello for a performance of the Audioslave hit, “Like a Stone.” Morello was Cornell’s bandmate in Audioslave for years, before Cornell reunited with his original band, ’90s grunge rocker Soundgarden. Morello was also the guitarist in Rage Against the Machine.
Tankian and Morello’s performance happened on May 17, one day prior to the two-year anniversary of Cornell’s death. Watch some fan-filmed footage of the performance below.
This isn’t the first time Tankian has joined Morello for a Chris Cornell tribute. The two performed “Like a Stone” with Morello and the other surviving members of Audioslave, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk, in 2017 in Germany and again 2018 in New Zealand.
Cornell passed away on May 18, 2017, following a Soundgarden performance at The Fox Theatre in Detroit. His death was ruled a suicide.
