Five Finger Death Punch Discusses Finding Their ‘Beast’ of a New Drummer
Five Finger Death Punch has a new drummer in Charlie Engen, and the guys have an interesting story about how they found him
The guys of Five Finger Death Punch are in the midst of writing and recording their new album, and this time around, they have a new drummer on board. Original drummer Jeremy Spencer was forced to leave the band due to health reasons, and now, in a new behind-the-scenes video, guitarist Jason Hook describes how Five Finger Death Punch found their new drummer, Charlie Engen.
Hook says that when Spencer told the guys of Five Finger that he didn’t think he could continue with the band, Spencer added, “The good news is that I think I found the guy.” Hook added that, “Jeremy had reached out to [him] through Instagram.” Yes, the social media network, Instagram.
“I immediately went and started checking out the videos online,” Hook said, adding that Engen is “a beast!”
Then, Hook joked that the guys offered Engen the gig for a meager salary, saying, “Dude, 50 bucks a week.” Chances are, he’s making much more than that.
Some of the other members of Five Finger Death Punch were already familiar with Engen’s playing. Guitarist Zoltan Bathory states in the video, “The funny thing is that Jeremy found him, but I follow him, so when he said who it is, I said, ‘Oh, yeah, that kid is amazing!'”
Engen started filling in with Five Finger Death Punch in November of 2018, and now, he’s on tap to tour with the band going forward.
Engen is currently in the studio with Five Finger Death Punch as they write their new album, which will mark the Las Vegas hard rock band’s follow-up to 2018’s “And Justice for None.”
