Paul McCartney Announces New Album, ‘McCartney III’
Beatle great Paul McCartney will release a new solo album in December which was solely written, produced and performed by McCartney
After several weeks of rumors, Paul McCartney has announced that he’ll release a new solo album, “McCartney III,” in December, which was written, produced and performed soles by the former Beatle.
The record, which marks McCartney’s 18th solo release, will arrive on Dec. 11. McCartney recorded the set at his Sussex, U.K., during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and lockdown. McCartney says the album was “made in Rockdown.”
“McCartney III” marks the third album in a trilogy of releases that McCartney created on his own, the first two being his 1970 solo debut, “McCartney,” and the 1980 set, “McCartney II.”
McCartney says he wasn’t expecting to release a new album this year, but while he was stuck at home, he started working on some musical ideas he had in his reservoir and new songs, to boot.
When it came to the recording of “McCartney III,” he says in a release, “Each day I’d start recording with the instrument I wrote the song on and then gradually layer it all up, it was a lot of fun. It was about making music for yourself rather than making music that has to do a job. So, I just did stuff I fancied doing.”
“McCartney III” is available for pre-order digitally, on CD and as a 180-gram vinyl LP. McCartney is also offering multiple limited-edition colored vinyl versions of the album.
