Chevelle Announce New Album, ‘NIRATIAS’; Release Lead Single, ‘Self Destructor’
Chevelle’s new album, “NIRATIAS,” will arrive on March 5; listen to the first single, “Self Destructor”
Chevelle has announced the details of their upcoming, ninth studio album. The set, called “NIRATIAS,” will arrive on March 5 in a variety of formats.
“NIRATIAS” will mark the first Chevelle albums without longtime bass player Dean Bernardini, who left the band in 2019. Now, Chevelle consists of brothers Pete and Sam Loeffler with additional musicians to round out the touring lineup.
The album’s first single, “Self Destructor,” is available via digital outlets now. The song appears to tackle themes surrounding the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and those skeptical of the science, with the lyrics, “It’s time, or self destruct / They don’t care what the science says / They don’t want to talk.” Listen to the new Chevelle song below.
“NIRATIAS” marks Chevelle’s follow-up to 2016’s “The North Corridor.” Between full-length albums, the band unleashed a rarities compilation, “12 Bloody Spies,” back in 2018. Along with the release of “NIRATIAS,” Chevelle is offering an assortment of items and special merchandise, including limited edition and autographed items. View the full catalog here.
Chevelle got their start in the mid-1990s, forming in Grayslake, Illinois, and earning a steady following in the region, including Chicago. The band’s second studio album, 1999’s “Wonder What’s Next,” sold more than two million copies worldwide and earned the band mainstream success, buoyed by lead singles “Send the Pain Below” and “The Red.” Since then, the band has been a regular on rock radio, topping the charts with catchy, post-grunge-leaning tracks such as “Joyride (Omen),” “Face to the Floor,” “Hats Off to the Bull” and “I Get It.”
Chevelle’s most recent tour happened in the fall of 2019, featuring Three Days Grace, Chevelle, Dorothy and Diamante. Not word yet on tour dates to support “NIRATIAS,” but chances are the band is waiting until the pandemic has subsided before booking any specific tour dates. Chevelle do have two dates on the books for this year: one July 16 at Upheaval Festival in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and the other July 17 at Rock Fest in Cadott, Wisconsin.
